A Path of Education, Guidance, and Achievement: My Bachelor Degree, from Southern Somali University (USS) and Master's Program at Kampala International University

                                       بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

           Introduction

A story of perseverance, purpose, and progress

I was born on a Friday, October in 1997 in Baidoa District, Somalia a place that would shape my earliest experiences and eventually become the heart of my return. My foundational education began in 2003 when I started learning the Qur’an. These early spiritual teachings instilled in me discipline and values that continue to guide my life today.

In 2006, I embarked on my formal academic journey at Salaxudiin School in Baidoa. Over the course of four formative years, I developed both scholastically and personally. In 2010, my life took a significant turn when I moved to Bute Sub-county in Kenya. There, I enrolled in Malaba Primary School, which was conveniently located near my new home. This phase of my life brought cultural transition, adaptability, and new learning environments that enriched my worldview.

After six impactful years in Kenya, I returned to Somalia in 2016 to complete my studies in Baidoa. A year later, in 2017, driven by ambition and hope, I traveled to Mogadishu to join Somavile University. I successfully registered and was ready to begin my higher education journey. However, fate had other plans.

As I was heading home after registration, I boarded a taxi in a bustling part of the city. The roads were congested, and a military convoy behind us was attempting to pass through. Unable to find space, the military resorted to opening fire a decision that forever marked my life. I was severely injured in my arm during that incident. It was a terrifying moment that tested my strength and resolve, but it also deepened my commitment to making a difference.

Despite this setback, I redirected my energy toward serving others. In 2018, I joined Kanava Organization as a Case Worker for two years. This role allowed me to support vulnerable communities, document their experiences, and advocate for their protection and rights.

Continuing my mission of service, I became a Field Worker at Reado Organization in 2023. Through this role, I deepened my connection to grassroots advocacy, directly engaging with communities and working toward sustainable solutions for pressing societal challenges.

After my contract ended, I decided to pursue my dream of higher education once again. This led me to Uganda, where I settled in Kampala, the capital city. I proudly enrolled at Kampala International University, beginning my studies in Master of Social Work and Social Administration a field that aligns with my passion and lifelong mission to serve others.

My Graduation from Southern Somali University

April 15, 2023, was a day that will forever be etched in my memory a day of triumph, reflection, and boundless hope. On that day, I stood among my peers at Southern Somali University, adorned in a cap and gown, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication in earning my Bachelor's degree in Public Administration.

The ceremony was held in Baidoa, the heart of the Bay region, where the warm Somali sun bathed us in its golden light. The air was filled with excitement and anticipation as families, friends, and faculty gathered to celebrate our achievements. The atmosphere was cool, a testament to the significance of the moment. As I walked across the stage to receive my Bachelor Degree, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey that had brought me here. The late-night study sessions, the challenging assignments, the moments of doubt all of it had led to this pinnacle. Holding my degree in my hands was not just a personal achievement; it was a symbol of the resilience and determination that defined my cohort.

The speeches delivered by our professors and dignitaries resonated deeply with me. They spoke of the transformative power of education and the responsibility we now bore to contribute to the betterment of our communities and nation. Their words ignited a renewed sense of purpose within me, reinforcing my commitment to serving the public with integrity and dedication.

Looking around at my fellow graduates, I saw a diverse group of individuals, each with unique stories and aspirations. Together, we represented the future of Somalia a future grounded in knowledge, leadership, and service. Our shared experiences had forged bonds that would last a lifetime, and as we celebrated our success, we also celebrated the collective strength that had brought us to this point.

That day, under the Somali sky, I realized that graduation was not just an end but a beginning. It was the start of a new chapter, filled with opportunities to apply the principles of public administration to real-world challenges. It was a call to action to take the lessons learned and use them to make a positive impact in our communities.

As I reflect on that unforgettable day, I am filled with gratitude for the education I received, for the support of my family and friends, and for the unwavering belief in my potential.

April 15, 2023, was more than just a graduation day; it was a celebration of dreams realized and a promise to continue striving for excellence in all that I do.

On April 27, 2023, I participated in a transformative five-day training on advocacy and networking for civil society organizations in Baidoa, Somalia. This training was part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening the capacity of local organizations to effectively advocate for human rights and community development.

The sessions were conducted by the Southwest Human Rights Defenders Network (SWHRDN), an organization dedicated to promoting human rights and the rule of law in Somalia. The training covered a range of topics, including advocacy strategies, networking techniques, and the formation of human rights clubs. Participants were equipped with the skills necessary to engage with stakeholders, influence policy, and address human rights issues within their communities.
Throughout the week, we engaged in practical exercises, group discussions, and case studies that highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by civil society organizations in Somalia. One notable aspect was the emphasis on community dialogue, which has proven effective in fostering understanding and cooperation among diverse groups in Baidoa. These dialogues have addressed issues such as conflict resolution and have contributed to building a more cohesive society.

By the end of the training, I had gained valuable insights into the intricacies of advocacy and networking. The experience not only enhanced my professional skills but also deepened my commitment to supporting civil society initiatives in Somalia. The knowledge and connections gained during this training continue to inform my work, enabling me to contribute more effectively to the advancement of human rights and community development in the region.

My second journey  was in  22/7/2023

Reminiscing about the day I chose to pursue a master's degree in social work and administration. I now see how crucial that event was in determining my future. My ambition to expand my knowledge and advance my professional goals in social work led me to carefully investigate Kampala International University, or "KIU." KIU was the ideal fit for me because of the program's stellar reputation and compatibility with my career objectives.

What made the decision even more meaningful was when I learnt about the 50% tuition discount available through KIU.  For me, the discount changed everything—it wasn't just a financial advantage. I was able to concentrate on my academic path without having to worry about money problems all the time. I had a competitive edge because to this chance, which allowed me to focus entirely on my academics, interact with classmates from other backgrounds, and acquire useful skills that would help me in my future profession. In retrospect, I am appreciative of this assistance since it was crucial to the success and accessibility of my educational path.

My life-changing experience started at Kampala International University's stunning campus.

My Function as Class Coordinator: Advancing a Diverse Community One of the highlights of my academic career was working as the class coordinator for a diverse group of Somalian and Ugandan students. I was able to hone critical leadership abilities in a multicultural setting in this capacity, which complemented and career objectives. I was in charge of promoting dialogue, settling disputes, and guaranteeing academic advancement. I was able to improve my problem-solving, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity skills by leading a multicultural team.

My leadership skills were improved by this experience, which also reaffirmed how crucial flexibility and emotional intelligence are when leading teams in culturally heterogeneous environments. As I work towards a profession in Social work, I think the practical insights it gave me into handling complicated dynamics will be really helpful.

Skills that I  have gained is Communication Skills, active listening skills, and also Cognitive SKILLS and etc.
